Queenie is a purebred Maine Coon Cat who came into my life when my cottage
was overrun with Mice from a field in the back of the cottage. We found
each other at the Camp Pendleton Marine Base Animal Shelter. She was the
last, and only cat, up for adoption. I knew she and I belonged together
the moment I saw her!
I call Queenie my Godsend and my MediCat. Queenie has
literally saved my life at least TWICE! Last December 2004, I had the
metal removed from my right hip which had been inserted after breaking my hip.
I came home and was in bed. Queenie was thrilled to see me.
Queenie's eyes got huge, her fur stood up, and she began 'pouncing' on my
bandaged thigh! I was in agony and asked her, "Queenie, what are you
doing? You are hurting your Ma!" She did it several times every
hour! The next day, I had to change the bandage and found a bright green
secretion along the surgical incision! I thought it was some kind of
medicine the surgeon had placed inside to help heal. That night and the
next morning, Queenie continued to pounce on my right thigh with her eyes wide
and her fur all flared out. The next day, I once again changed the
bandage, only to find more bright green secretions all up and down the long
bandage! I telephoned the surgeon and was asked to come in immediately.
I had placed the bandages in plastic baggies. I had a massive infection
from surgery! The surgeon, (and later the pathologist at the hospital
where I had the surgery) told me that if it had not been for Queenie PUSHING the
infection out from the sutures and staples, I could easily have gone into total
sepsis (total blood & body infection). Queenie had literally saved my
life!
Last May, 2005, I did not realize I was having a severe allergic reaction
to medications. I was awakened by a huge exhale of breath. Queenie
was pouncing on my chest - once again, her eyes wide and her hair standing on
end. I must have stopped breathing in my sleep and Queenie was doing CPR!
The next day, I ended up in the ER and the severe allergic reaction to
medication was discovered.

Queenie rides her scratcher like a skateboard. It started out by my pushing her on the carpeted floor and twirling her. I then attached fishing line

Queenie walks on a leash. She did it the first time I ever put the harness and leash on her.
At first she would hug the ground and then run and then hug the ground. Now she is very confident and explores everywhere. |

Queenie in her 'bowl' with her toys.
I was going to eat shelled peanuts in bed. I found a Thanksgiving plastic bowl for the shells. Placed the bowl on the bed, turned to get the peanuts and turned back again, Queenie was sitting in the bowl. I have tried to take it away and she comes running and jumps into it! It is now on her side of the bed - always! |

Queenie is so
intelligent. She literally says, 'Ma', She rides her cardboard
scratcher like a surfboard, she sits up for treats, she walks on a
leash. Queenie is an amazing 'Watchcat' and tells me anytime
anyone is coming. She is extremely affectionate and is almost
always by my side or on my lap. She loves to be brushed and
groomed. She tells me when she has used her cat box so I will
clean it immediately. She meows at me if she knows I am overdoing
it and leads me to the bed and tells me it is time to rest! Her
unconditional love and companionship have truly blessed me. Please
spay or neuter your pets - & remember to adopt from a pet shelter!
Queenie - Heart Event Monitor
Mystery Recording - September 2009
I am wearing a Heart Event Monitor for ten days. Yesterday
was my first day and night. The monitor records "heart events". When
I have a symptom, I hold the record button for a full two seconds and
it begins recording and I can hear a music like sound, or as the tech
says a FAX like sound. I then telephone the Heart Monitor technician,
report my symptoms and then hold the telephone to the monitor sitting
on a table. After the technician receives the recording (EKG), I then
erase it so the tech can hear the event is erased. The monitor makes
a different erased sound, and the record button turns solid green. I
hang up and repeat the process for another event.
When I
got into bed after taping the wires to the electrodes and the device to my
chest under my nightgown, Queenie came over to me and stood on my chest. She
gently kept gently tapping the heart monitor with her paw! It was as if she
was telling me she approved.

Even
more bizarre, I reported an event by telephone after midnight before I went to
sleep. The event was definitely erased because the recording signal was solid
green, not flashing as it does when there is an event recorded. I woke up
this morning to discover an event was recorded, the green light was flashing
to indicate this. I did not hold the event button which is on top of
the device for 2 seconds to begin the 35 second EKG during the night!
However, I vaguely recall hearing music playing in my sleep - my heart music -
LOL!
I
experienced a sharp pain in my heart when I bent about an hour after noticing
the mysteriously recorded event, so I held the record button - the device
holds two heart events. Sure enough it sounded for 35 seconds that it was
recording.
Knowing the recordings were now maxed out, I removed the taped monitor and
leads from my chest, called in to report 2 events. They ask the symptoms for
each event and record the data on the recording print out EKG. I told the
tech that I had NOT pushed the recording during the night, so could not report
the symptom for the first event recording. I asked him, "If my heart stops or
goes into atrial fibrillation, does it automatically record?" He emphatically
replied, "NO!" He commented I must have pushed it accidentally. I told him
that was impossible because it was taped to my chest and it would have to be
deliberate to hold the button for two solid seconds. I quickly added, "Maybe
an angel set it to record." (Thinking to myself that Queenie had a hand in
this:)
Queenie has literally saved my life twice - it is medically documented by
several different physicians and surgeons, now maybe three times, depending on
the read out of the mystery EKG recording during the night! I am, indeed,
blessed, protected and guided. as all of us are, if we simply acknowledge it.

Blessings, Jussta
